Web Design
Shenzhou Fives Method and Sites
When building a site I tend to start at a point just beyond the basics; what the graphic content will be. This, I know, is generally an odd order in which to do things, but as graphics are a love of mine I can't help but envisage what a site will look like before I start to think about anything else.
Once I have spent a few hours in Photoshop playing with ideas and seeing what fits the theme of the site, I will produce a site map and basic layout. This gives a much better idea as to what the finished product will look like. After this is done, I open Dreamweaver and get coding. I have taken to putting as much formatting code as possible into a CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) as this reduces the amount of work that needs to be done on the pages themselves. It also allows for faster editing as you don't have to scroll through masses of code every time you want a word a different colour. Once everything is typed out and the content inserted, its just a matter of fine tuning and ironing out any bugs or problems, which is the stage I often hope I can miss out.
Here are some examples of sites I have already produced (not including this one, of course):
- The Night Lord Clan Site
- St Peters Church, Rickerscote
- The Crown Inn
